2019 Kortum Shield win
Kortum Shield report
On Sunday 3rd of March Leura 1 Kortum shield team won the Pennant having to avoid a washout or a draw and needing a 2 point win. Leura 1 defeated a gallant Blackheath 2 games to 1 on a hot and sunny day at Lithgow in a very close contest.
Peter Davis, Tom Cook, Angelo Garofano (c), Hamish McCarthy, Phil Noble, Steve York, John Hogan
Tom Cook and Peter Davis played outstandingly, winning their match 6&5. The ever reliable Steve York and Phil Noble secured a valuable 2&1 win, ensuring the flag was safe. I would like to thank my playing partner Hamish McCarthy who experienced his first ever pennants competition. Our match was decided on the 17th. Regardless of individual results we all performed. The goals we set at the start of the competition were: to have great camaraderie; to represent LGC as best we could; and, to play for each other. I feel confident we will hold our own next year.
Thanks go to Blackheath’s pennants team for the competition and the spirit in which the final was played. Thanks also to Lithgow Golf Club for hosting the event and the good condition of the course. A big thankyou to all the host clubs and to all that helped out. A massive congratulations to our players and the ones that filled in when needed. Commiserations to our Seniors and Masters teams, there’s always next year. My thanks to Phil Noble for handing over the reins to me and to LGC for allowing me the opportunity to be a proud capitano this year. I won’t lie, it was a bit nerve wracking but our guys did the work. Until next year when we defend our title, enjoy the win and happy golfing. It’s been so many years but we finally did it.
Angelo Garofano, Leura 1 Kortum Shield Captain
